Dear visitor,
Welcome to the Faculty of Public and Environmental Health (MPEH). The FPEH was established in 1933, it is one of the oldest public health institutes in Africa and the region, which deals with undergraduate and postgraduate studies in public and environmental health.
Public health is an interesting, dynamic, and holistic interdisciplinary science, where students and researchers work with professional tools and methods to minimize the probabilities of disease and injury occurrence through control of what called (risk factors). These risk factors are parameters and/or determinants scattered all over the environment or lay behind socioeconomic conditions that could affect disease incidence and severity.
Such determinants can be contaminated water, food, polluted air or working environment where disease etiological agents persist. Determinants could also be human activities or behavior or the presence of animals or vectors in which the biological causative agent of diseases may propagate and get chances for transmission of diseases to new victims. Similarly, Determinants can be situations where physical hazards such as noise and extreme heat take place or maybe chemical contaminants which rise from anthropogenic activities and cause diverse types of human suffering.
Graduates of the Faculty Public and Environmental Health work in the containment of diseases by controlling their risk factors. Our graduates are found in municipalities as public health officers or in the Ministry of Health as public health specialists who plan, design, and implement preventive health strategies. Our graduates are also found, in non-governmental and governmental organizations dealing with human health improvements and prosperity such as United Nation organizations and others like WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, WFP, or you may find them working at airports and country-entries supervising entrance of goods and people to check they are disease-free. Other areas where you may find them are factories and working environment looking after the health and safety of workers or you may find them in the construction projects and schemes doing environmental health impact assessment. Alternatively, you may find them in public health laboratories, research centers, and universities performing research on modifying methods of contaminants detection and quantification in water, food, or soil or mitigating the expected effects caused by biological, physical, or chemical hazards.
To be part of this wonderful group of people, you need to come and study with us, biology, physics, mathematics chemistry, biochemistry anatomy, physiology, biostatistics, research methodology, public health subjects, epidemiology, health planning, health administration, health economics, food safety, toxicology and even construction drawing and building construction courses and more other interesting subjects
Our faculty has four academic departments:
Environmental Health and Environmental Studies, Food Hygiene and Safety, Epidemiology, and Health Education in addition to a field training unit responsible for organizing your field trips.
The faculty layover about 11500 square meters in the heart of Khartoum on the medical campus near the railway station and other commuting facilities. The faculty comprises four spacious two-story buildings that have nine large study halls, a computer lab, and four science laboratories.
Please feel free to explore our full website and if you have a chance, you are welcome to visit us where you can talk to other students, graduates, and faculty members and explore our undergraduate program, our interesting and successful master program, and Ph.D. possibilities.
Looking forward to welcoming you as a student, colleague, or visitor
